With the help of from our generous donors, a team from New York was sent to Haiti bringing much needed relief from the devastated earthquake of 2010. We were informed of a small Shi’a community ostracized from larger Muslim communities. The principle of the Al Mahdi orphanage (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) reached out and told us of their dire situation. The community was neglected and cut off from receiving aid through NGOs.

One of the secondary goals of the team was to document their efforts and highlight the Shi’a of Haiti in efforts to bring needed attention. In March of 2010, Oppression.org produced and released the well received documentary, “Shia of Haiti.”

Two American Muslims set out on a mission to help a community of hundreds in the earthquake torn country of Haiti. A mission which began solely as a humanitarian effort turns into a spiritual awakening for the two in a weeks span in a shattered land.

Equipped with only a camcorder they documented their journey as they interviewed locals, engaged in heartbreaking conversations, and photographed a devastated Haiti, which is in a desperate need of help!

“I heard they say in America ‘Time is money?’ Here in Haiti – ‘Time is free’ It is impossible to find a job. If you don’t have a job, it’s impossible to get married…” – Brother in Miragoane, Haiti

The documentary was  screened in various cities around the world, New York,  Chicago, Los Angeles , Toronto, London, and Sydney.
